A LOTRO Christmas Eve

T’was the night before Christmas and all through the servers,

Only leveling gamers and NPC’s were stirring.

The squirrels and the foxes were all on their patrols,

While the suppliers made the rounds and wore out their soles.

As the gamers settled down to log off for the night,

Across the kin channel there arose such a chatter,

Of a sight near Thorns Halls in the snow so white,

But nobody seemed to know just what was the matter.

I got on my hunter and as quick as a flash,

I landed in Thorns just as the sight started to pass.

A big red sleigh just made for a dwarf,

Pulled by eight Forochel reindeer into the wharf.

The driver was as stout as a dwarf could be in that section,

With a hooded fur cloak that begged further inspection.

His armor was heavy but his weapons were few,

And his jewelry needed an upgrade or two.

In a flash, he sent an invite to me for a fellow,

And with a twinkling laugh I joined and said “Hello”.

There were already an army assembled with care,

From all over the land, from Isengard, to the Shire.

A full range of levels and classes greeted my eye,

Along with a warm welcome and a mention of pie!

A query was asked of why we were gathered,

But the old dwarf just turned to me and nodded.

Climbing my horse, I didn’t know what to do,

When suddenly the box came up asking to transport too?

We transported and landed on top of each other,

And entered an instance, I didn’t seem to remember.

As we staggered around and got our buffs ready,

The absence of foes made our weapons look heavy.

Finally as the old dwarf materialized last,

Hope went to 15, and all dread was passed!

We started asking the dwarf if he had a hope token,

And one suggested he might be Gandalf or Tolkien.

But the old dwarf just bowed and jumped up on his sleigh,

And charged up the snowy hill past the stooks of hay.

Not wanting to leave this new instance tonight,

We jumped on our horses with a flurry of whinnies!

The tanks in the lead and the rear filled with minis,

We charged up the hill behind the old dwarf into the light.

When what should arise at the top, just over the bevel,

But a town full of toys for every class and level!

A series of quests for every girl and boy,

Made the holiday special obtaining every toy!

The ice swans were carved and frozen with care,

And a few snowball fights to join but only if you dare.

The winter tokens were gathered and put to good use,

In wonderful cosmetics and even a new horse to use.

We lost the old dwarf but found him again,

Performing at the theater, the star of the show!

He laughed and cheered, and with a twinkle in his eye,

He bowed for the audience, and waved goodbye.

We all cheered and threw flowers,

To him and his fellow performers,

Then he exclaimed as he vanished and ran stage right,

“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
